September 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of Nexus Institute of Creative Arts. This anniversary will also coincide with the acceptance of our 1,000th student!

“Wow – 20 years. It is incredible to see how far God has brought us on this life-changing journey. We honour those first 19 students who applied purely on faith, we celebrate the hundreds of students from 40 nations and their testimonies of lives transformed and we eagerly await the commencement of our first BA (Hons) Music and Worship graduates.” (Dave Silber, Founder)

To commemorate these we have planned an incredibly exciting year with a whole range of events designed to celebrate these significant milestones. But we couldn’t wait to get started so today we’re launching our new 20th Anniversary logo and giving you advance notice on a couple of exciting events so you can get the dates in your diary. .

Read on for more information about what this year will hold and how you can celebrate with us.

A Word from the Founders of Nexus ICA

Dave and Kate Silber…

In 1998 the launch of Nexus ICA was simply our obedience to God speaking. We knew God’s heart was to see His church reformed, to see music and the arts redeemed and to see a generation of Christ-like, creative voices raised up for the advance of His kingdom. We offered him our faith in response for the seed that He had given us. To see how that has grown over the past 20 years is both humbling and joy inspiring. We could tell stories forever, but here are just some examples of what has grown from that original seed…

A few highlights:

  • The miraculous provision of our first premises at Stoke United Reformed Church
  • The many students who returned to Nexus as employees in later years
  • The broad range of musical careers across the Nexus alumni
  • The financial miracles that have been a regular part of Nexus life
  • The phenomenal Rag Weeks and the incredible things that have been birthed and made possible through the finances raised
  • The dozens of Nexus weddings
  • The surprising number of students who came to Nexus as singers and musicians but went on to become church leaders
  • The growth of Coventry churches as Nexus students made their home in Coventry and continued to impact the local area
  • The evolution of our shows from good concerts to strong, prophetic, multi-media theatrical productions
  • The many nations we have been able to send staff and students to, to teach and train musicians and strengthen churches.

That brings us up to today. We stand here with our biggest student cohort to date with a full degree programme in Popular Music & Worship in place, looking out toward a future where God is extending our reach and opening up more opportunities than ever before. We push the creative boundaries with original shows that are increasingly ambitious and we continue advancing and refining our approach to person-centered education to better prepare students for a rapidly changing world. We are partnering with more churches, worship schools and Christian organisations in the UK and across the world to discover the power and synergy of building together.

We look to the future with the increased faith, expectancy and sobriety knowing that tomorrow holds more promise and potential than we could ever ask for or imagine. Here are a few areas we are already working on:

  • A new Coventry campus
  • Broadening our course provision to include a wider range of creative, technological and communication based pathways
  • Meeting a global need through the exploration of innovative teaching formats (i.e. distance learning platforms), the creation of a virtual faculty and the development of international partnerships and exchanges
