Our Nexus ICA Gospel Choir has been hitting new heights this year, having competed at the finals of the UK’s University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY) competition, achieving an amazing 2nd place overall.

This was the first time we had participated in this event and it was an incredible journey for all of our students and staff involved, culminating in the performance at the final on Saturday 24th March.

But for us, our success didn’t lie in where we placed, as Christen Clark (Vocal Tutor) explains…

“We prayed before the performance began, just to make sure we knew what success looked like. There was a lot going on – there were lights, film crews and judges, so it was great to set our sights on the reasons we were there and what we needed to do.

We prayed before the performance began, just to make sure we knew what success looked like.

Our success was knowing that we had done what God had wanted us to do. It’s not just about what the judges say, what other people think or what we think of our performance. All of those things pale in significance, when our focus is on pleasing our God and receiving His well done.

We feel really clear that God wanted us to be in that room and, with the way that we lifted our sound, we have a sense of receiving God’s well done. That’s why we were there, so it feels like the best result!”

We’re immensely proud of our students and the way they lifted an authentic sound of worship together. With an upcoming feature within our End of Year Concerts, as well as plans to continue to develop over the coming year, the future is very exciting for our Nexus ICA Gospel Choir.
