Matt Donald - Nexus ICA
Nexus ICA faculty member, Matt Donald
Bass Tutor

Matt is a multi-instrumentalist, known for bringing energy and creativity to the stage, studio and classroom.

He has been involved in music and performing since childhood and turned his hand to contemporary music in his teens, discovering a passion for the bass. He came to study at Nexus ICA in 2002/3 where he co-founded the rock band [dweeb], hailed as ‘infectious’1 and ‘perfecting the formula’2 of modern indie. Over the subsequent nine years they would go on to secure record deals, play hundreds of gigs around the world, release two studio albums and star in a documentary for the BBC.

Now an experienced session player, educator and Ableton (amongst others) endorsed artist, Matt continues to play worldwide alongside award-winning artists and musicians, as well as being part of the faculty here at Nexus ICA. He teaches our Bass pathway, leads the Professional Development and Career Planning module, as well as the Song Writing and Production module and is heavily involved with the music technology and performance elements of the course.

Matt holds a BA in Youth Studies and Applied Theology, is an associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is currently studying an MMus in Songwriting at the University of Bath Spa.
